EAC comprises three strategic businesses, a chemicals distribution business in South East Asia (EAC Industrial Ingredients) – now divested, a food & beverage business in Venezuela (Foods) and a moving & relocations business (EAC Moving & Relocation Services).Founded in 1932, EAC Industrial Ingredients is one of the largest chemical distributors in South and Southeast Asia with activities in 9 markets out of its headquarters in Bangkok. The company has more than 300 suppliers and more than 8,000 customers. The company is focused on distribution of specialty chemicals to the coatings, food & beverage, personal care and industrial formulation industries.
Following Asia’s recent strong emergence from the general economic downturn, a new wave of global consolidation is taking place in most industry sectors, including those of EAC Industrial Ingredients. The inevitable entry into the Asian markets by global chemical distributors will increase competition for desirable acquisition targets and further reduce EAC Industrial Ingredients’ potential for continued growth. The decision to sell EAC Industrial Ingredients at this time and at a premium price provides EAC with significant resources to focus on the exploitation of the full potential in the remaining two business units.
The acquirer is Brenntag Holding B.V. (XETR:BNR).
