Arla Foods Amba is a global dairy company and a co-operative owned by Danish, Swedish and German dairy farmers. The Group have production facilities in 13 countries and sales offices in a further 20, with a total of more than 16,000 employees. Medipharm specialises in probiotic bacteria cultures for the agricultural and food industries. The company has operations in Sweden, the Czech Republic, Hungary and USA. The company has annual sales of approx. SEK 130 million and approx. 100 employees.The acquirer; Chr. Hansen is a global bioscience company that develops natural ingredient solutions for the food, nutritional, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. All solutions are based on strong research and development competencies and significant technology investments. The company enjoys market leadership in all its divisions: Cultures & Enzymes, Health & Nutrition and Natural Colors Division. There are more than 2,300 dedicated employees in over 30 countries.
The divestment is in keeping the Arla Food’s strategy of disposing of its non-core businesses. The acquisition will strengthen Chr. Hansen’s activities within probiotic cultures and accelerated its growth within the culture area in which Chr. Hansen is a market leader.
